Are there any other southern rock enthusiasts on the forum? Steve, unless I'm mistaken, you're one, too!
I absolutely love Molly Hatchet. They're my favorite band. But I also dig Doc Holliday and Blackfoot. Jakson Spires was one helluva drummer! I also like .38 Special, but they were a bit too AOR for me.
I look forward to discussing this particular slice of genre music...

Oddly enough, I've never considered ZZ Top a southern rock band. Go figure.

John, you've remembered right, I really enjoy Southern Rock.
Molly Hatchet are probably my favourties too, I have all their studio albums and a couple of live ones. Sadly I've never managed to catch them live.
Blackfoot were terrific, especially the album Marauder. Strikes gives it a good run for its money though. Saw them a couple of times.
Lynyrd Skynyrd must get a mention too, been listening to their latest album quite a lot recently.
Doc Holliday produced a top class Southern Rock album Doc Holliday Rides Again and the closing track Lonesome Guitar is one of my all time favourite songs.
Danny Joe Brown Band produced an excellent album too.
Outlaws, their live album Bring It Back Alive is a must have for fans of this type of music, simply for Green Grass....
Tried Drive-By Truckers too, great in places but...
Raging Slab are worth checking out also, their self-titled album especially.
Lately there's lots of bands that have been tagged as Southern Rock, for instance Black Stone Cherry (excellent band) but they don't have the sound or style of songs to be Southern Rock as I like it.

TOMCATTIN' is my favorite Blackfoot album.
I used to really like Skynyrd, but can't stand to listen to them nowadays.
Danny Joe Brown's solo album is definitely great.
I've hung around with Black Stone Cherry. They're pretty good guys. But I don't view them as southern rock, either.
Molly Hatchet really does a good live show. I saw them for the first time in 1979. Really good stuff. Did you happen to pick up SOUTHERN ROCK MASTERS and REGRINDING THE AXES? Awful albums.

And oh, I like the Outlaws, too. They put out some pretty decent stuff (especially BRING IT BACK ALIVE).

Btw: Which Molly Hatchet live albums do you have?
I own DOUBLE TROUBLE LIVE, LOCKED AND LOADED, FLIRTIN WITH DISASTER LIVE, LIVE AT THE AGORA BALLROOM, and a couple of bootlegs. They also have a new one out (FLIRTIN WITH THE WHISKY MAN) but it has the same track listing as FLIRTIN WITH DISASTER LIVE so I haven't bought it.

I don't have SOUTHERN ROCK MASTERS and REGRINDING THE AXES, sounds like that's good?
I have Double Trouble Live on Vinyl. Someone copied the CD version for me and I was surprised to find it has some tracks missing. Don't believe they could fit them all on a single CD. The other live album is Locked and Loaded.

You're definitely not missing much with those two albums. They're only doing cover songs, and Phil's voice sounds terrible. They completely butcher "Free Bird," and that's strange since they do such a good job of it on DOUBLE TROUBLE LIVE.
And speaking of that album, I have it on vinyl and CD, too. It's too bad those two songs don't show up on the CD, but I never found them that great so I'm all cool.

I just picked up SETLIST: THE BEST OF MOLLY HATCHET LIVE. It features tracks from both the Brown and Farrar line-ups.

Steve: Have you ever seen Molly Hatchet's LIVE IN HAMBURG concert DVD? I watched it a few times, and the band is in great shape. I recommend it.

It's a good release.
They also included a concert video in the FLIRTIN' WITH DISASTER LIVE album. I was actually at that show, and I recommend it, too.
