I'm highly anticipating this series from Piccadilly Publishing as I've never read it.
Saying that, what can I expect from it? Is it OTT with its violence and such?
Laurence James is my favorite PC writer behind Terry, so I've got my fingers crossed that CALEB THORN delivers.

Caleb Thorn witnesses his family wiped out by the Confederates so joins up with the Union army to get his revenge. Circumstances see him being put in charge of a group of prisoners and they become known as Thorn's Raiders. They get sent on suicide missions against the Confederates.
The series is very violent as the Civil War allows for a lot of mass slaughter. Think the Edge Civil War books meet the Dirty Dozen.

I've never been a fan of Terry's Civil War books, but this one still sounds good. Looking forward to it.

It took me a few days, but I finally managed to finish this book.
It definitely employs all the tactics that I love in a PC book. The sex and gore were OTT. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the characters. Caleb Thorn is very hard to like. Saying that, I'll be back when the rest of the books rear their heads for my Kindle. I'm looking forward to what Angus does in book two.

I said Angus in my last post, and I'm wrong. It's John Harvey who co-authored the series. My mistake.

Any particular reason?
I didn't care much for book two. I'll keep on with the series, though.

I read all six, about 30 odd years ago There's only 5 books in the series. But I'll overlook that because it was so long ago that you read them...

Looking back those 30 odd years ago, I liked the look and the feel of those Caleb Thorn books the whole feel of the books were different than all my others, Edge Steele, Breed, Herne, Gunn. I don't know if it was another print or the paper that was used but they were just nice books to look at and have on a shelve.
Maybe Steve or Dave or Mike can tell us why?
I remember losing them all to a jealous rage of an ex girlfriend who could not stand any reminder of a past life before her> I wonder where Carrie is now?
I read a lot back then, now I think it just does not do a lot for me.
But over to you John ,why did you not like book 2?

I'm really not a big fan of John Harvey. There's something about his writing that puts me off. Even his takes on Herne leave me feeling the same way. I really can't put a finger on it.
