What does everybody think about this series?
I've always really liked it. However, one of the reasons why it's endeared so much to me is that because it comes to a definitive ending. I like series that have closure, and Herne delivers.

Probably my second favourite series to come from the Piccadilly Cowboys (Edge being my first choice).

I'm in the same boat.

Think I liked the fact he was older than most western heroes which allowed for his past to rear it's ugly head every now and again. This also gave the author opportunity to write some flashback books such as MASSACRE, BILLY THE KID and PONY EXPRESS.

That's a good point. Those were pretty good books.

I just read an Amazon review that gave #3 a one star rating because of "detailed talking."
WTF?

Most definitely! It's a very good series. And it employs a definitive ending. That's a plus for me.

I'm currently revisiting this series. I'm now on #2 RIVER OF BLOOD. And this is what I'm talking about! I love the scenes inside the school. John Harvey is definitely firing on all-cylinders with this release.

I'm now reading SHADOW OF THE VULTURE.
THE BLACK WIDOW was decent, but I didn't feel that LJ was totally up to snuff. It felt like he was just trying to get through that particular part of Herne's story so that he could get to other things. I know he picks things up with APACHE SQUAW, so I'm not worried. I remember that being one of my favorite titles in the series.

Currently reading APACHE SQUAW.
This is one helluva book. It's not my favorite Herne (that's THE LAST HURRAH), but this one is darned close.

It's one of my top entries in the series too. Reckon #11: Silver Threads could be my favourite, it certainly has a couple of the best bad guys ever.

SILVER THREADS is definitely a good one.
You probably know why I list THE LAST HURRAH as my favorite, though... heh.
