One of my favourite books is a historical romance with a large western content. The Wildest Heart written by Rosemary Rogers was one of the first adult books I read when I was about 12. It's a bit racey in places and, I think as I get older, a bit unrealistic emotionally but the backbone of the story is excellent being about familial intrigue, the western power struggle and strength in the face of adversity.
Although I've steered away from the romance western in recent years, I also have a row of Jodie Thomas books on my shelves. If you can get round the will they, won't they, of course they will sexual tension and flick over the love scenes, there are some very strong western stories being told.
