In a time when "The West" pretty much ends in Texas and only California is slowly being populated by the white men, there's a severe lack of women among the workers on Roy Whitman's farm in the California Valley. So he goes back east to Chicago to recruit 150 women willing to become wives for his employees. From the candidates he selects 138 who seem able to survive a months long journey across "The Great American Desert" and the Rocky Mountains. (IMDb)
This a fantastic film although I've only ever seen it twice on tv. Luckily, I was able to record it the second time and so have a copy to watch whenever I like. And it's well worth the watch. Even though the film's visual quality is quite poor due its age, it ticks all the boxes for story, emotion, backdrop and, for me, the requisite happy ending (after a few tears).
If you get a chance to see it, I highly recommend you do.

Don't read any of my books then, they all have happy endings.

Okie dokie. Heh heh.
I'm just the opposite. I'm a sucker for downbeat endings. I usually try to incorporate them into my work.
