In this "sequel" to SABATA, Yul Brynner takes over for Lee Van Cleef as the title character. The story revolves around a heist concerning gold. Pretty typical oater fare.
If LVC had returned for this film, it would've been much better. I like the movie just fine, but always have a hard time with Brynner. The way he struts around in his black outfit with its fringes and open shirt always makes me kinda giggle. Still, that doesn't really subtract from the story.
I also would've preferred this to be called INDIO BLACK (its original title). It doesn't really work as a Sabata film, though you have strange weaponary showing up. And yes, I'm looking at the bandit who shoots metal balls with his feet. Saying that, ADIOS is still miles better than RETURN OF SABATA (which is downright dreadful).
This one doesn't offer anything you haven't seen before (save for Brynner in his black duds), but I'd still recommend it.
The DVD is readily available. It can be had as either a single disc or part of the SABATA collection.

Hey John,
Enjoying your reviews of the Spaghetti Westerns. I have not seen any of them, yet. I just found Hellbenders free on Amazon Instant video, so I will be watching that later.
Thanks for the tips. Keep going.

Thanks! Aside from a few Steve comments, I've been feeling alone in this forum. Heh.
I think you'll enjoy THE HELLBENDERS. It's a decent oater.

And Lee Van Cleef took over the part of Chris in one of the Magnificent 7 pictures.

Anybody go an opinion on who the best Sabata was? LVC or Brynner?

Lee Van Cleef. There's no comparison.

I agree with john. Lee Van Cleef was the better Sabata. I always thought Brynner's Sabata was just a bit too hokie.
