Thought it would be interesting topic. What westerns have spawned a spin-off. And what got me thinking about it was reading Herne the Hunter #3 The Black Widow. The character Whitey Coburn is great and im hoping that there was a spin-off series because i dont believe he was dead at the end. Wishful thinking ?

Ralph Cotton has done this with his Fast Larry Shaw books. He first appeared in one of the Sam Barrack books.

Another that has come to mind is Peter Brandvold's new series about Rusty Spurr, he's been in a few books before, in at least two different series.

And another is Robert J Randisi's Talbot Roper series that launched last year. Roper has appeared in many of The Gunsmith books.

The Hawk series by William S. Brady had many flashbacks to how Hawk learnt a lot from a man called John T. McLain. McLain latter starred in his own series Peacemaker.

I know the Johnstones have many of them. The Johnstone books would take some thinking about as many of their series seem to be about characters mentioned in other books as you say Larry. The obvious one for me is J.A. Johnstone's The Loner series which comes from The Last Gunfighter series. Then there's the various Jensen family series and MacCallister books - problem is I haven't read them all so am not sure which is linked to which.

Thinking about it a lot of J.T. Edson's books linked characters who are from different series, but as I've only ever read one of his books I couldn't begin to work that series tree out.

Just thought of another: Jon Sharpe's Canyon O'Grady. O'Grady first appeared in a Trailsman book - but I wonder if this was done to put the character in reader's minds as the series launched shortly after the Trailsman book came out?
When the O'Grady series was a few books old Canyon appeared in another Trailsman book.

HAWK is a good series. I never really cared for PEACEMAKER, though.
